I remember the first time I saw the Paperboys, I didn’t really want to go to the show, but I didn’t really have anything better to do that night, so I thought what the heck. it was over at the Showbox across the street from Pike Place Market. A very cool venue, that after the show, a street vendor sells hot dogs that you can add cream cheese too. Yeah, I said it. Cream Cheese. Sounds disgusting, but after a few drinks, it tastes mighty good. But anyways, back to the music.
Rewind back to St. Patty’s Day in 2007. I went with my friend Stacey to the show a little skeptical. Wasn’t too sure what to expect. I listened to the opening song of the set, Molinos, and I was pretty much hooked. It reminded me a lot of a band I discovered while in high school in Canada, Spirit of the West. After the 3rd or 4th song, the lead singer introduced the band, and said he was missing one of the members, Geoffrey Kelly, as he was playing a gig with his other band… Spirit of the West. How cool was that! So I drank and danced the rest of the night, and loved every minute of it.
Fast forward to a couple of weekends ago, and I heard from my friend Carrie, that the Paperboys were playing at the Tractor Tavern. I’ve always loved seeing shows there, and so we went. And danced, and drank, and danced… Seeing them has brought me into a phase where i’m listening to a lot of country / folk / bluegrass /j am kinds of music. So in my playlist on my iPod are the Paperboys, the Avett Brothers, Clumsy Lovers, Blue Rodeo, Jim Cuddy Band, and so on and so forth… Never thought I’d be in this kick for such a long time.
For one reason or another, the Paperboys love Seattle (then again, who doesn’t? I think it’s only my parents that don’t like it here… :)) They play here 3-4 times a year, either at the Triple Door, the ShowBox, or Tractor. below is the only video that I’ve seen of theirs, “Fall Down With You”. Go see them if you’re in Seattle, or anywhere on the West Coast. You’ll like em..

I’m not one for jumping on the bandwagon of what could be one-hit or one album wonders… But I think these guys might have grabbed my attention…
